80’s Monday – Paul Simon

Back at the end of 2010, I began a little Monday morning regular on my blog called 80’s Monday. The purpose was to post videos of favourite songs from that ever-cheesy, yet good, period known as the 80’s. Born in 79, that period was the decade of which I cut my teeth on music.

It’s been a while since I posted an 80’s music segment, and I cannot say for sure I will do this every Monday. But I wanted to post a song I’ve been listening to quite a bit these days. It’s Paul Simon’s You Can Call Me Al. Growing up, I never knew the name of bands or the titles of songs. I simply knew the hook, the easily memorable part of the song (usually the chorus). And normally what I thought it said was not fully what the lyrics said. Needless to say, this is true of the song You Can Call Me Al. Thankfully my friend just recently lent me the Paul Simon album, Graceland, which has this particularly track on it. Maybe I’ll catch a bit more Paul Simon fever…and learn the words.

Anyways, here is the video. It’s a bit humorous with the towering Chevy Chase (6’4″) and shorter Paul Simon (5’3″) contrasting one another just a bit.

  1. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I’ve always liked this song, and also had not really understood all the words or even what the song is about. However, I had NOT seen this video, and loving all things Chevy Chase, this really made my day. Thanks again!
