Today is Maundy Thursday, the day we remember the Jewish Passover meal that ultimately became the Last Supper.
Many are familiar with the words of Psalm 23. Particularly we find these words:
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
But, what we find at the Last Supper is Jesus going beyond the words of the song, singing a new song, if you will:
You prepare a table before me
and I invite my enemies.
Jesus invited his enemy, Judas. Let that sink in. Not to mention the later abandonment by many of the other disciples.
The call is to remember what Jesus has done, so that, however challenging it may be, we too may walk in his steps.
