Today I came across this tweet from John Piper.
Worry seems so “un-Christian.” Does it not?
We know the oft-quoted passage in Philippians 4:6-7. “Do not be anxious about anything…”
It is clear. Don’t worry, don’t fear, don’t be anxious!
However, my sense is that we need to look more deeply into this concept of worry, or really the feeling of fear, which I believe is at the core of worry.
Perhaps we need to delineate between the feeling of fear and a deep disposition of anxiety.
Fear is not the opposite of trust. Rather we have the opportunity to learn trust as we feel fear. Trust can take place while also experiencing fear.
Coming to understand this has been greatly helpful for me.
