Exodus: Gods and Kings (Trailer)

Exodus-Gods-and-Kings-Poster-Bale-691x1024You might not have been aware but, at the beginning of 2014, some labeled this year as “the year of the Bible” in regards to film releases. Religion News columnist, Jonathan Merritt, posted an interesting article on this very topic back in January.

There were to be 5 film releases in 2014 that connect to the storyline of the Bible. It’s interesting how the Bible’s narrative keeps popping up these days in films, whether done for good, bad or indifferent. I’m not convinced it’s due to some religious resurgence abounding in America. Something else typically controls the Hollywood scene – whatever will make a buck. Remember what they did to promote the Man of Steel film amongst churches? Still, I’m happy that, through these releases, interest could be piqued about Noah or Exodus or even Christ himself.

Anyways, those 5 “Bible” films of 2014 are:

  1. Son of God
  2. Noah
  3. Heaven Is For Real
  4. Exodus: Gods and Kings
  5. Mary, Mother of Christ (originally set to release in 2014, but now looking like April 2015)

The trailer for Exodus: Gods and Kings, directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven) was just made available and it looks very well-produced. Christian Bale is playing Moses. Or is that Batman playing Moses? Quite the difference from Charlton Heston in the 1956 film, The Ten Commandments. The movie releases in December.

Watch the trailer below and let me know what you think.

  1. Hi Scott, looks like your video link is not working. I was able to find the trailer over at Slate. Based on the trailer the large scope of the imagery is great. Of course I also like Christian Bale.- I have no expectation of it being true to the Bible – (or course that remains to be seen) – But from an entertainment aspect it looks like may be good film.
