Not about life, but about Scripture?
The well-known A.W. Tozer once said this in The Pursuit of God:
The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts.
One by the name of Jesus of Nazareth said this:
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me (John 5:39).
But then he pronounced this judgment over the Jewish leaders:
yet you refuse to come to me to have life. (John 5:40)
Such a tragedy.
We hold not to a Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Scripture. We hold not that the Bible is THE Word, but rather that Christ is THE Word, the LIVING Word.
Quoting from the old Hebrew Scriptures, we must ask: Choose this day whom you will serve?
There is one person who is reserved as the way, the truth and the life. One person. And Scripture ultimately exists to help us know that person.
So true. I have known many Christians who desire scriptures and the knowledge of them over an intimate and real relationship with Christ, the true source of life.
